Bismillah wa -Alhamdulillah wa Salaatu wa Salaam 'alaa Rasulillah 'amma ba'd

The Noble Shaykh ‘Ali al-Waseefi (May Allah Preserve Him) from the mashaayikh of Egypt will deliver part two of his heart felt tele-lecture with Muwahhideen Publications entitled “Upon You is to Wage Jihad On Your Soul” on Saturday 26th October 2013 this time, bringing examples from our Salaf-us-Saalih.  The Shaykh is a student of Shaykh Hasan Ibn ‘AbdulWahhaab Marzuq al-Banna and is also recommended by him. When Shaykh Hasan was asked, “Who are (the mashaayikh) of Ahlus Sunnah in Egypt?” From the mashaayikh he mentioned by name was Shaykh ‘Ali al-Waseefi (May Allah Preserve them both).

This event will be broadcast LIVE in Masjid Ibn 'Abbaas, Tobago, two masaajid in Trinidad, Masjid ul Khaleefah and Masjid us Sunnah, and six masaajid in the U.S. Masjid Al-Bukhaari, Florida, Masjid Ibn 'Abbas, Georgia, Masjid Nur Allaah, New York, Masjid as-Sahabah, Ohio and Masjid Tawheed, Michigan.

This lecture event will be translated LIVE into English in shaa Allah.

Shaykh ‘Abdul ‘Azeez Ibn Baaz (rahimahullah) explains -

A person should strive against his soul to adhere to the truth and hold steadfastly to Tawbah.

Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) says, “And whosoever strives, he strives only for himself” [Soorah al-‘Ankaboot: 6]

Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) also says, “As for those who strive hard in Us (Our Cause), We will surely guide them to Our Paths (i.e. Allah’s religion - Islaamic Monotheism). And verily, Allah is with the Muhsinun (good doers).” [Soorah al-‘Ankaboot: 69]

The Aayah “...those who strive hard in Us (Our Cause)” refers to those who strive against their souls, as well as against the disbelievers, the hypocrites, the disobedient people and Shaytaan.

This Aayah includes all kinds of Jihaad (fighting/striving in the Cause of Allah), such as striving against one's soul. Allah (Glorified be He) did not specify any kind of Jihaad. The soul needs to be refined, taken care of, and directed to patience and Jihaad.

A poet once said,

One’s self longs for what a person wants,

if it is directed to something,

it heads to it desirably but when suppressed, it stops

Another poet said,

One’s self is always desirous when left unrestrained,

but once it is turned down, it becomes satisfied

A third poet said,

Your self is like a baby when neglected it will grow with

the desire to be breastfed but when you wean it, it complies

These three lines depict the status of one's self. A believer should strive with his self until it remains steadfast on the Right Path and does not trespass the limits but abides by them; consequently Allah (Exalted be He) will guide him to the Right Path. A believer would then become from the good doers about whom Allah (Exalted be He) says,

“And verily, Allah is with the Muhsinun (good doers).” [Soorah al-‘Ankaboot: 69]

Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) also says,

“ Truly, Allah is with those who fear Him (keep their duty unto Him), and those who are Muhsinun (good-doers).” [Soorah an-Nahl: 128]

May Allah grant us success. [Obligation of Striving Against One’s Soul from AlIfta.org]

Shaykh ‘Ali al-Waseefi (hafidhahullah) will admonish us regarding this tremendous matter and by the Permission of Allah we will all be encouraged to act upon what the Shaykh presents to us from the Book of Allaah, the Sunnah of His Messenger and the statements of Ahlul ‘Ilm.

We ask Allah to make us from those who yield obediently to Him and sincerely strive against the evil of our souls and that He (Subhaanah) takes our souls at the time when He is most pleased with us.
