Bismillah wa -Alhamdulillah wa Salaatu wa Salaam 'alaa Rasulillah 'amma ba'd
The Noble Shaykh ‘Ali al-Waseefi (May Allah Preserve Him) from the mashaayikh of Egypt will deliver a LIVE tele-lecture with Muwahhideen Publications on Friday 1st November 2013. The Shaykh is a student of Shaykh Hasan Ibn ‘AbdulWahhaab Marzuq al-Banna and is also recommended by him. When Shaykh Hasan was asked, “Who are (the mashaayikh) of Ahlus Sunnah in Egypt?” From the mashaayikh he mentioned by name was Shaykh ‘Ali al-Waseefi (May Allah Preserve them both).
This event will be broadcast LIVE in Masjid Ibn 'Abbaas, Tobago, two masaajid in Trinidad, Masjid ul Khaleefah and Masjid us Sunnah, and six masaajid in the U.S. Masjid Al-Bukhaari, Florida, Masjid Ibn 'Abbas, Georgia, Masjid Nur Allaah, New York, Masjid as-Sahabah, Ohio and Masjid Tawheed, Michigan.
This lecture event will be translated LIVE into English in shaa Allah.
It is authentically reported that the Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said,
“(There is) no ‘Adwa (contagion or disease transmission naturally and not by the Decree of Allah), nor is there any Tiyarah (evil omen), nor is there any Hamah (the omen of the night bird, i.e. Owl), nor is there (any bad omen in the month of) Safar.”
It is narrated from Ibn Mas'ood (radhiyAllahu ‘anhu), in a marfoo’ hadeeth,
"At-Tiyarah is Shirk, at-Tiyarah is Shirk. There is none among us who does not feel something in his heart about at-Tiyarah. But Allah, due to deep trust in Him, removes it." [This hadeeth was reported by at-Tirmidhee and Abu Dawood] and it is stated that its last part is the statement of Ibn Mas’ood.
“…believing in bad omens and superstitions by what is heard or seen is an act of Jahiliyyah. They used to be pessimistic when they saw something that did not suit them such as a crow, black donkey, an animal that has its tail cut, or the like. They regard this as a bad omen out of their ignorance and deviation. Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) replied to them by saying: “Verily, their evil omens are with Allah” for it is in Allah's Hand both adversity and welfare, giving and deprivation.
Tiyarah has no basis, since it is not true; rather they only find it in their hearts. This is the reason for which the Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “There is no Tiyarah.”
Thus, a Muslim should not retract from meeting their needs, if they see anything that may incite any feelings of pessimism such as a donkey, an ugly person, and the like; rather they should go on, fulfil their needs, and put their trust in Allah. If they do not, this would be considered an act of Tiyarah, which blemishes the ‘Aqeedah but is not considered a major act of Shirk but a minor one.”

Our Shaykh ‘Ali al-Waseefi (hafidhahullah) will clarify the belief of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa’ah regarding the belief in omens and superstitions according to the Book and the Sunnah and by the Permission of Allah, he will expel any doubts or false beliefs one might have concerning this matter.
We ask Allah to correct our creed and that He, Al-‘Aleem grants us beneficial knowledge that would be a proof for us and not against us on the Day of Judgement.
