The following article, written by Shaykh Badr al-Badr al-'Anazy (hafidhahullah) is a concise compilation of some of the statements of the scholars regarding the Khawaarij, as well as a brief explanation of some of their names. This article was translated by our noble brother Abu Afnaan Muhammad 'Abdullah (hafidhahullah), who has explicit written permission from the Shaykh to translate his articles click here to read.

In this wonderfully informative yet concise article the Shaykh mentions a brief explanation of some of the many names of the khawarij throughout history e.g. Al-Harooriyyah, Ahl an-Nahrawaan, Al-Muhakkamah, Ash-Shurraah, Al-Maariqah.

An excerpt taken from the article ~

The scholars have stated that the hadeeth which have been narrated concerning deviant, misguided groups are all unauthentic except the ahaadeeth pertaining to the Khawaarij.

The Khawaarij are an evil people and they are the people of deceit and treachery. They killed the Leader of the Believers ‘Ali Ibn Abi Taalib treacherously and they wanted to kill Mu’aawiyah and ‘Amr Ibn al-‘Aas treacherously as well. However, Allah saved Mu’aawiyah and ‘Amr from them.

The scholars differ regarding the ruling related to the Khawaarij being disbelievers or not. There are two well-known opinions which Shaykh-ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah attributed to al-Imaam Ahmad, and Ibn Hajar mentioned both in “Al-Fath”.

Audio: Condemning Boko Haraam (Tobago TV Channel 5 Phone Interview) by Hasan as-Somalee

MPlogo redOn Wednesday 14th May 2014, our noble brother and teacher Abu 'Abdullah Hasan as-Somalee (hafidhahullah) was interviewed via telephone by Tobago TV Channel 5 regarding the group Boko Haraam. He clarified that their actions are in total contradiction to the pure teachings of this Deen and are not to be classed as those who represent Islaam and the Muslims.

An excerpt from the transcript ~

Hasan as-Somalee (hafidhahullah): Bismillah, in response to this question it should be understood by everyone that this group and those who are similar to this group, whether it is Shabaab in Somalia or al-Qaa’idah in the Arabian Peninsula, or any deviant and extreme group wherever they exist in the world today, they do not represent Islaam or the Muslims in any way, shape or fashion. If you follow the news in the Muslim world, you will find that the scholars of al-Islaam, for example the Mufti of Saudi Arabia - the current Mufti of Saudi Arabia whose name is Ash-Shaykh ‘Abdul ‘Azeez Aal Ash-Shaykh has condemned this group and actually gone on record and stated that they are an extreme organization and they belong to a sect known as the Khawaarij - a group of renegades who have existed throughout history in the Muslim lands and have brought nothing but chaos, bloodshed and instability.

An excerpt taken from the article ~

"2. The person of bid’ah is not given the Salaam and this is the position of the majority of the Salaf

Hasan al-Basree and Ibn Sireen stated: “Do not sit with a person of bid’ah and do not give him the Salaam.” [Related by ad-Daarimee and others]

Imaam Ahmad stated: “If a man gives the greeting of Salaam to a person of bid'ah, then he loves him, due to the saying of the Messenger (sallAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam): ‘Shall I not show you that, if you were to do it, you would love each other? Spread the greeting of Salaam amongst yourselves.’”

Imaam Ahmad was asked about a man who had a Raafidhee Shi'a neighbor, does he give him Salaam? He replied: “No and if he (the Raafidhee) gives him the greeting of Salaam, he is not to reply.” [Al-Hajaawee mentioned this in the Explanation of The Poem on Manners,180]

Questioner: Shaykh, I have a question if you would answer it. One of the brothers from the West asks, “We have vacation these days due to the celebrations of the kuffaar and I have a shop wherein I sell food and the like. This shop is open for the entire year and I do not sell anything in it connected to the celebrations of the kuffaar or their false beliefs. Normally, the shop is open six days a week, however due to the increase in customers and the increase in activities in the marketplace these days, I want to open the shop an extra day thereby making the store open seven days a week in order to capitalize on the opportunity of the increase in customers. Does this constitute endorsing/sanctioning the kuffar in their celebrations during these days or endorsing/sanctioning them in their disbelief?”

Shaykh ‘AbdulQaadir: No, this does not constitute (that). What is apparent to me is that this is not considered from the issue of endorsing the kuffaar in their celebrations...The Shaykh continues his answer in detail...
