Pivotal Quote
❝There is no doubt that having children listen to the Qurʾān from an early age and raising them upon it will provide safety for them (from listening to music, etc.), Biʾidhnillāh, and it will serve as a protection for them from this tribulation.❞
سؤال وجواب – عربي – ١:٥١ دقائق
Question:
In these western countries we are surrounded by music everywhere; when we go to the grocery, to a restaurant, to the mall, everywhere. Many of us are very affected by hearing it because we grew up in jāhiliyyah hearing music and it attracts us, but our children too now are affected and become attracted to the point where they find it boring to listen to the Qurʾān, wa Allāhul-Mustaʿān. Other than keep them locked up at home all day, what advice can you give us to combat this sickness?
Answer:
There is no doubt that this is a great calamity, as enticing the people with music and listening to it is an affair that many Muslims have been tested with, whether it be in their own Muslims countries or other countries. However, concerning this issue and similar ones, what can be done is:
Firstly, instilling within them admonition regarding music, as it is prohibited. As such, if they hear music in these public places or other places and they know the legislative ruling concerning it, they will not be inclined to listen to it.
Secondly, exalting the status of the Qurʾān in the souls, paired with the fact that it is not possible that the Speech of Allāh and the voice of the Shayṭān and his instruments are equal. Thus, if you were to instil love of the Qurʾān in them, especially the short chapters and have them listen to it being recited with a nice, beautiful recitation, it will cause them to love listening to it.
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) would like hearing the Qurʾān being recited by those with pleasant voices and he would like to hear it from others. There is no doubt that having children listen to the Qurʾān from an early age and raising them upon it will provide safety for them (from listening to music, etc.), Biʾidhnillāh, and it will serve as a protection for them from this tribulation.
Likewise, increase in making duʿāʾ to Allāh to protect from all evil and immorality. Similarly, trying to avoid these places according to one’s ability.
