Points Covered by The Shaykh:
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) created every soul and every nafs and gave it its wickedness as well as its Taqwā – fear of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- The nafs are capable of being upon wickedness or of being upon fear of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) says in the Qu’rān, “Verily those who purify themselves will be successful and those who make the nafs lowly will be from amongst the losers.”
- Every ayāh in the Qu’rān carries some form of purification from that way for nafs of the human being.
- The command whoever says Lā ilāha ilI-Allāh and is upon Tawḥīd and sincerity of Ikhlās in their religion, that is the true purification upon the Tawḥīd of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) says in the Qu’rān, “Verily those whorub their faces with dust will be from the losers.” By pushing themselves away from the truth.
- The manners of people are different from one another in facing such affairs.
- Every nafs is created by Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى), initially upon fitrah and Tawḥīd Monotheism.
- Ḥadīth Qudsī – Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) says, “Verily I have created my servants upon Oneness of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) altogether.”
- The shaytān (or shayātīn) will steal them (or take them away).
- The nafs lead towards Tawḥīdjust as the newborn wants to suckle upon the milk of its mother.
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) created people upon loving Tawḥīd.All the creation loves Him (سبحانه وتعالى) and Glorify Him (سبحانه وتعالى).
- The shayātīn will try to steal them away from that path. Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) gave them this capacity.
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) made the devils as companions to those who do not believe in Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- The shaytān may come to the human being from every direction.
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) says in the Qu’rān, shaytān said to Him (سبحانه وتعالى) “And I will sit for them, Oh my Lord upon your straight Path. Then I will come to them…”
- The shaytān comes to mankind from so many ways, until the human being deviates away from the path of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- Believers must always be fully aware and be prepared on how to get rid of the devil.
- The believer must return and run back to Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- Surāh Al-Mu’minūn – “I seek refuge with you from the whispers of the devils…”
- Shaytān did not speak to any of the pious predecessors except but a few.
- Shaytān will not come to you except through certain ways and means.
- We are not able to see the shaytān but he is able to see us. We cannot face him based upon our physical strength. Allāh created the devil stronger than us in physical strength, but Allāh is the strongest of all.
- How to kill the shaytān? By the remembrance of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- Story of one of the Companions – He was riding behind The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), and the donkey tripped over something in the road causing him to fall, and the Companion said, ‘Miserable is the shaytān / Woe to the shaytān.’The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) told the Companion ‘Do not say so, when you curse the devil, he becomes bigger and feels better about what he has done to you.’
- The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said to Companion, ‘It is better to say Bismillaah.’ Then shaytān will get smaller and small until he becomes small like a fly.
- The Dhikr of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) is especially important to the believers.
- The devils were passing by another devil that was killed, and they asked who killed this devil? They were told it was by a human being.
- A shaytān entered a human being, while in the body he (shaytān) was like a camel, when he exited the man, he came out as small as a small bird because of the dhikr the man kept doing, being upon so much remembrance of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- During ImāmAḥmad’s sickness, his son continued to remind his father to say Lā ilāha ilI-Allāh. But Aḥmad would answer and say ‘not yet! Not yet!’
- The shaytān was standing by the side of ImāmAḥmad.
- Devil confessing to Aḥmad, ‘you made it past me Oh Aḥmad. I was not able to sway you Oh Aḥmad.’
- The devil promises evil, and always breaks whatever promise he makes.
- The shaytān wanted Aḥmad to die while he was becoming amazed with himself, so Aḥmadrealized this while suffering and told shaytān, ’Not yet! Not yet!’
- The battle between the believer and the devil is never over until the soul leaves the body.
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) says in the Qu’rān, “Verily the shaytān is an enemy to you so take him as an enemy.”
- When the shaytān used to come to some of the Companions, they would spit on their left side and seek refuge with Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) says in the Qu’rān about the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), “The Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) believed in what has been revealed to him, from his Lord.”
- The word Al-dunyā(the world) is from loneliness, from something that is ugly.
- Said from the Pious Predecessors, “Whoever is trying to compete with you in your religion, so rush to the competion, and whoever tries to compete with you in this world of ours so, throw the dunyā back at him.”
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) told us in the Qu’rān, “And the life in the world is only posh and pride.”
- An example given by Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى). It is like water Allāh causes to come down from the heavens and mixes with the earth.
- The Command of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) may come upon this dunyā like the plants that have been cut down from the roots, like it did not exist yesterday.
- ‘Alī (رضى الله عنه) said, “Go to deceive other than me. I have divorced you three times.”
- Scholars said, ‘If the dunya was pure gold and the hereafter was pottery made from mud, then we would have hope in meeting with the pottery that is from mud. Better for us to be to stay in this life of ours, that is pure gold.’
- We are promised heavens in Paradise, which rivers run underneath, soil of Paradise is full of musk and saffron, also what they eyes have never seen and what the ears have never heard, and never came to the heart of a human being.
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) says in the Qu’rān, “And do not be deceived by those who have disbelieved in this life of Ours, and how they turn around in the lands. It is only a little bit of joy for them in this life of theirs. But then the final abode will be in the hellfire.”
- An example of what happened to Fir’aun (Pharoah) who had the high towers and all that a man desired.
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) said, “We have drowned them altogether in the sea.”
- Homes are dark and destroyed by what their hands have earned
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) says, “Everything upon it (the earth) will come to an end. Only the face of your Lord will remain.”
- ‘Alī (رضى الله عنه) said, “And my nafs and then the hawwa.”
- Nafs is to the right and left of the human being. It is like traitor who is a partner of yours, that is always willing to commit treason against you.
- If you leave that partner alone and do not hold it accountable, it will go against you, you must always keep an eye on your nafs and hold it accountable.
- Umar (رضى الله عنه) said, “Hold yourself accountable, before you are held accountable by Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- If you find yourself frail, rein in your nafs with the truth.
- A believer must teach themselves that there is a collection of enemies for you – (1) shaytān, (2) your nafs, (3) your hawwa, (4) the dunyā.
- What is al-Hawwa? It is everything opposite to the Haqq (truth). It was called this because it will bring the human being into the hellfire.
- Everything that came from our Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was nothing but the truth.
- We are forbidden to follow our Hawwa, except in one instance.
- Al-Hawwa may be referred to those who may rush upon the truth. Such as the pleasure of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- Most of the uses of al-Hawwa in the Sharī’ahrefers to ‘what is wrong/evil.’
- In the Quran, Hawwa is always hated by Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى). Four collection of obstacles for every human being.
- Prepare yourself as a human being against these four obstacles.
- Actions that lead you to be upon Islām and Imān.
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) has put upon this Ummah, the blessing of the month of Ramaḍān.

- All the evils of oneself, ones nafs, the hawwa are pushed away.
- After Ramaḍān, the believer comes back clean and pure and sincere for Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- All the nafs of the believer will never fall into the ways and means of the shaytān.

- During the month of Ramaḍān, Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) prevents the believer from eating what is ḥalāl normally outside of this month. This directs the believer to be frugal regarding anything beyond what is ḥalāl.
- Nafs should be rushing upon the Qu’rān, then this increases in īmān.
- If you learn to do so, then you will be seeking the forgiveness from Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- The foundation of repentance itself, is rooted from the confession of the human being of one’s sins.
- The strength of one’s īmān will stop the nafs from falling into hawwa (whims and desires).
- The confessions of one’s wrong and returning to Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) is of two ways.
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) can know all your statements, your actions, and even all your whispers.
- Establish your nafs upon repentance of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- The path of the believer and the consequences of such actions will be good for you.
- The gifts that Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) is hiding for you, the beauties that Allāh is holding for you, then you will be from those who are rushing towards the goodness in that month.
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) says in the Qu’rān, “And rush towards forgiveness from your Lord, and Paradise is as wide as the heavens and the earth.”
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) commanded us as believers to only rush in regard to the matters of the hereafter. He never commanded us to rush in the matters of this lowly world of ours.
- Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) says in the ayāt, “And walk within its ways and means…” that is for the dunyā.
- Whoever tries to compete with you in your religion, so be prepared for the competition.
- Compete as much as you can in your religion, to the best of your abilities
- SalafīScholar of Egypt of the past would say to his students, ‘Whoever tried to compete with you in any manner of the matters of the hereafter, you must compete with him. But whoever tries to compete with you in any matters of this life of ours, collect everything he is trying to compete with you regarding this life, collect all of that in one basket, and throw it back at him.’
- If you are oppressed, you have a choice. Ask Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) to re-compose you or to get your rights from that individual or to forgive him.
- Shaykh (حفظه الله) says, ‘Maybe you can hold your anger, but you have not forgiven the person who has done you wrong.’ If you forgive him / her then everything between the two of you will go away.
- The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said in one narration, “Rush with righteous deeds.” He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said in another narration, “Rush with the six righteous deeds.”
- Run to do what you are able to do, before trials and tribulation make you forget what you are here for. Before you forget what righteous deeds are.
- In a narration, “There will be trials and tribulations as dark as the darkness of the night.”
- The Ṣaḥābah of The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) used to rush in doing righteous deeds.
- The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) rushed to his house (after he finished salāh) to bring something out of his house, because he remembered something from gold or silver from the money of zakāt, in his house and hated that this gold / silver got in his way and would be held accountable on the day of judgement.
- How can we as believers not be afraid for ourselves, when we see all the Prophets / Messengers fear for themselves.
- Man is never afraid of poverty and even if he becomes poor, he will never blame himself for what he has spent for the sake of Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى).
- The limit for giving one’s wealth in sadaqa is one third of your total wealth.
- Believer should never give away all his wealth

- Ramaḍān is the month that has specific acts of worship by itself.
- Jibrīl used to come to The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم). This was the companionship to The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) during Ramaḍān.
- You must take the best of companions during the month of Ramaḍān, but also keep away from the devils.
